THE CEREMONY OF THE RITE OF CANDIDACY
Saturday, January 25, 2020

Reckoned as a decisive moment in the formation of candidates to the Catholic Priesthood, the Rite of Candidacy is the ceremony wherein the seminarian in formation publicly declares his intention to be admitted as a candidate to Sacred Orders. The rite is reserved for the Theology Two seminarians, who have been rightly assessed by the competent authorities to receive it, having successfully completed their philosophical training and the compulsory one year of pastoral experience in their dioceses. The Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul (January 25th) is the day dedicated yearly to administer the Rite of Candidacy in Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Bodija, Ibadan. The Rite of Candidacy was therefore administered by the Most Rev. Dr. Francis O. Adesina (Catholic Bishop of Ijebu-Ode Diocese) to fifty-seven (57) seminarians of the Theology Two class for the 2019/2020 academic/formation session on the 25th of January, 2020. The celebration began with the Holy Mass at exactly 7:00am. And, present at the mass were the Metropolitan of the Archdiocese of Ibadan; Most Rev. Gabriel ’Leke Abegunrin, the Celebrating Bishop; Most Rev. Dr. Francis O. Adesina, priests, religious, and seminarians. As we congratulate our brothers for attaining such a noble feat in their formation, we pray that God may direct their steps towards their chosen vocation. Amen.
