34TH MATRICULATION CEREMONY

The Seminary of Saints Peter and Paul, in affiliation with the University of Ibadan, had its 34th matriculation ceremony on the 11th of March, 2020. The matriculation ceremony is the University’s formal approval and public acceptance of the First Year Students as bonafide students of the premier university. The ceremony, which took place in the auditorium, began at exactly 9:50am with a procession of the matriculants, the formators and academic staff of the Seminary, and the principal officers of the University of Ibadan. The opening prayer was led by Rev. Fr. Dr. Francis Adelabu. The various anthems were sung, after which the ceremony was declared open by the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor A. I. Olayinka, who was ably represented by the Director, Directorate of Affiliated Institutions, Prof. M. K. Akinsola.

The Acting Rector of the Seminary, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Anthony Igbekele, delivered the welcome address, wherein he reflected on: Journeying from Corruption to Integrity: The Role of Education in the formation of Future Leaders and Priests. After the Welcome Address, the Vice-Chancellor’s speech was presented by Prof. M. K. Akinsola, with the title: Wholistic Education of Learners towards Building an Integrated Life and Fighting Corruption, especially in our Immediate Society. The ceremony was then brought to its high-point, which consisted in the administration of the Matriculation Oath by the First Year Philosophy Students. This exercise was carried out by the Registrar, University of Ibadan, Mrs. Olubunmi Faluyi, ably represented by the Deputy Registrar (Senate, Admission and Affiliated Institutions), Mrs. Morenike Afolabi. With the exercise, the First Year Students became bonafide students of the University of Ibadan, enjoying all the rights, privileges and duties. The closing prayer was led by Rev. Fr. Joseph Aniaga at exactly 10:40am, while the event was declared closed by the Vice Chancellor, represented by the Director, Directorate of Affiliated Institutions, Prof. M. K. Akinsola, at exactly 10:42am. The Seminary is grateful to the University for this exercise, and for the collaboration both institutions have enjoyed over the years.
