The Mission Sunday Celebration
Sunday, October 22, 2017

In union with the Universal Church, the Seminary community had the Mission Sunday celebration on the 22nd of October, 2017; a yearly event when the Church appreciates her nature as missionary and reminds Christ’s faithful of our responsibility to proclaim and make present the Kingdom of God on earth. The programme began at exactly 7:00 a.m. with the Holy Mass which had Rev. Fr. Dr. Joseph Iyamah as the Chief Celebrant. The second part of the celebration had the convergence of the Seminary formators and seminarians, visiting priests, and youths of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan at the seminary auditorium. Included in this part of the celebration were presentations from various groups, such as the Springs Theatre Troupe which had a drama presentation revolving around the priestly life, the Seminary’s musical bands, individual presentations, and awareness sessions/outreach by different male and female religious communities. The male religious communities present include: Society of African Missions (SMA), Redemptorists, Oblates of St. Joseph, Capuchins, Oblates of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Schoenstatt Fathers, Vocationist, amid others. The female religious houses – Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Sisters, Eucharistic Heart of Jesus (EHJ) Sisters, and many others also had awareness sessions, all geared towards promoting the Gospel message in the world, and winning youths for the priestly and religious vocations; a response to Pope Francis’ request that the young people should be involved “in the shared missionary responsibility that needs their rich imagination and creativity.”
