The Commissioning of the Computer Laboratory
Wednesday, January 31, 2018

The exigencies of formation in the face of the present day reality continue to be of great concern to the Church. Hence, she seeks to respond to these challenges through every possible means in order to facilitate the holistic formation of candidates for the Catholic Priesthood. In appreciation of the rise in technological advancements, one of the facets of the human society, the Church has emphasized the place and adequate knowledge of the media in the seminary formation. The new Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis further emphasized this when it regards the mass media as “ a new ‘agora’, an open public square in which people share ideas, information and opinions, and in which new relationships and forms of community can come into being”. Hence, it states emphatically that it is “an arena from which pastors of the future cannot remain aloof, either during their formation or their future ministry.” It is predicated on the above that the 1997 Alumni Set in conjunction with the Seminary community, having received the permission of the Seminary Proprietors, deemed it fit to officially commission the computer laboratory for use in the seminary. This is basically geared towards aiding a sophisticated process of formation, wherein seminarians are exposed to the proper usage of the various platforms of the media, in order to effectively proclaim the gospel message to an internet-driven society. The commissioning of the computer room was done by a representative of the 1992 set of Alumni, Rev. Fr. Thaddeus Ajayi, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Osogbo, immediately after the community Mass on the 31st of January, 2018.
