THE FEAST OF ST. LUKE THE EVANGELIST
Thursday, October 18, 2018

On this day, Thursday, the 18th of October, the Universal Church celebrates the life and works of one of the Evangelists, St. Luke. Early traditions have it that Luke was the author of the third Gospel and the second volume, The Acts of the Apostles. He was unmarried, a physician from Antioch, one of the seventy disciples sent out by Jesus, one of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus and a companion of St. Paul. He was of a pagan origin but was led to the faith by Apostle Paul while was called upon to treat him while he was sick. We celebrate the life of a brilliant narrator whose detailed narratives suggest that he got his information from credible sources, St. Paul and other Apostles. One striking thing about this great evangelist is that he became converted through the exercise of his profession as a physician which he acquired through his intellectual prowess yet he never stopped making use of his intellectual potentials for the spread of the gospel. Through his potentials he received the gospel, with his potentials he spread the gospel and by his potentials he laid a long lasting acceptance of the gospel.
