Seminary Celebrates the End of Marian Devotion in Style
Saturday, November 4, 2017

The months of October and May are generally known as the months of Mary. In this session, the celebration of the Marian months was uniquely carried out through the communal/daily recitation of the rosary and the litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the aegis of the Spiritual Department of the Seminary. At the end of these months, a rosary procession was done around the seminary compound up to the Marian grotto. The Marian procession and fires from the candle make the procession colourful; the overall spiritual influence was unique; making these days, days to be looked forward to.

National Marian Year and Third National Marian Congress
In commemoration of the centenary of the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima, Pope Francis declared year 2017 a JUBILEE YEAR of Mary. In a local context, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) also declared a National Marian Year which began on November 4, 2016 with the theme: “DO WHATEVER HE TELLS YOU” (JOHN 2:5). The grand finale of this National Marian Year was hosted by the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin-City at the University Teaching Hospital Field, Ugbowo, Benin City. The formators and seminarians of our seminary were duly in attendance.

However, to mark the end of the month of October 2017 devotion, a talk titled “The theological significance of Mary's virginity” was delivered by Fr. Francis Adedara, the Dean of Studies, seminary of Saints Peter and Paul, Bodija, Ibadan, thereafter a Rosary procession was done around the school compound up to the Marian grotto.
