SEMINAR ON PROPER ACCOUNTING
Wednesday, January 16, 2019

For the sake of transparency and accountability in the Seminary formative process, the Rector Very Rev Fr. Dr. Francis Obafemi Adesina and the formation team of the Seminary of Saints Peter and Paul, Bodija-Ibadan, on January 16, 2019, invited an expert in accounting process, the person of Mr. Abbey to augment our knowledge on how to do proper accounting and to introduce to the Seminary community, the newly adopted system of accounting in the Seminary.

Introducing the accounting software Intuit Quick Books, Mr Abbey established the fact that the stress of manual accounting in the time past gave birth to accounting software for efficiency and effectiveness in keeping books and maintaining accounting principles. For him, Quick Books Accounting software puts finance control in the hands of a non-accounting audience, as they are designed to give numbers a meaning and to perform automated calculations. With little or no training at all, the organization can complete all accounting operations and comply with legal standards from its own computer (mobile device), and without paying an external party to keep his budget in the loop.

According to him, below are the benefits of the accounting software.

  1. It enhances simplification
  2. It saves cost
  3. It guarantees full financial transparency
  4. It guarantees accurate forecasting
  5. It enhances productivity
  6. It is tax compliant
  7. It improves relationship with customers.
  8. It guarantees security.

In his remarks, the Rector stated that the knowledge of how to do proper and detailed account is very important in formation, for it helps seminarians in formation not just to be detailed, transparent and accountable but also to handle properly the temporal goods of the Church now and in the future.
