THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH-WEST ASSOCIATION OF CATHOLIC THEOLOGIANS (SWANCTH), 2019 EDITION.
Saturday, November 16, 2019

Catechesis occupies a prime place in the Church, as it is considered as one of her primary tasks on earth, ensuing from Christ’s mandate in Matt 28:19, “Go and make disciples of all nations…” In faithful obedience to this mandate, the Church renews her involvement in this project of teaching the faith, adopts various methods and strategies that will foster catechesis, and evaluates the situations of catechesis in various parts of the world. The South-West Association of Catholic Theologians (SWANCTH), in order to further appreciate the intricacies of catechesis in our present society, had the 2019 edition of her annual conference, themed: Catechesis in the Church in Nigeria, at Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Bodija, Ibadan on the 13th November, 2019. The programme, which began at 10:00am, at the Seminary Auditorium, had five guest speakers who addressed various topics on Catechesis:

  • Rev. Fr. Richard Omolade – A Repertoire of the Church’s Documents on Catechesis
  • Rev. Sr. Natalia Ajayi, IHM – Effective Catechesis in the Church in Nigeria: Moving from Formation to Transformation.
  • Rev. Fr. Kenneth Adesina – Biblical Apostolate and Implementation of Catechetical Teaching
  • Rev. Fr. Anthony Igbekele (Ably represented by Rev. Fr. Ajiboye Michael) – The Liturgical Path to Bible and Catechesis in Nigeria.
  • Mr. Femi Adeojo – Catechesis in the Church in Nigeria: From Policy to Implementation – A Biblical Path.

The event, which was witnessed by priests, seminarians, religious sisters, and some lay faithful, was truly an enriching and educative one, as it renewed in all the zeal to proclaim the Christian faith to the world.
