A NEW LITURGICAL YEAR BEGINS WITH THE SEASON OF ADVENT
Saturday, November 30, 2019

The season of Advent, which is usually the first season in the Church’s liturgical calendar, is greatly prized in the Church due to its two-fold character. On the one hand, Advent is a season to prepare for Christmas, when Christ’s first coming to us is celebrated, and on the other hand, it is a season when that celebration directs the mind and heart to await Christ’s second coming at the end of time. Sequel to the completion of the Liturgical Year C, with the major celebration of the Solemnity of Christ the King, the Church opens the door for a new liturgical year with the season of Advent. The Evening Prayer 1 of the First Sunday of Advent, which launched all into this joyful season of hope, was beautifully celebrated in Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Bodija, Ibadan, on the 30th of November, 2019. The celebration of Sung Vespers, which began at 7:00pm on this day, was officiated by Rev. Fr. Daniel Koumah, and within it was the dignified prayer of incense. The seminary community employs this medium to wish Catholics all over the world a fulfilling season of Advent.
