The unique character of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols finds its expression in the beautiful rendition of songs, drama, and other presentations, all of which have, as their focus, the intervention of God in human history, with special reference to the mystery of the incarnation. This celebration, which has, over the years, taken the form of a “tradition” in the seminary, is one that is usually anticipated yearly by those within and outside the seminary. The 2019 Edition took place on the 8th of December, 2019. The event, which is also liturgical in form, began at 12 noon with a procession from the sacristy to the venue. Sequel to this was the opening remark by the Rector, Rev. Fr. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido, the rendition of various beautiful songs, the reading of scripture passages from both the Old and New Testaments, as well as dance and drama presentations. The Christmas message was well delivered by Rev. Fr. Francis Adelabu, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti and a member of the formation team. The Closing remark was ably done by His Grace, Most Rev. Gabriel ’Leke Abegunrin, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Ibadan, who once more emphasized the message of Christmas, clearly presented in all of the presentations, and thanked the seminary authority for organizing such a noble event yearly. Indeed, the celebration radiated with the joy of the new born king, whom we expect at Christmas.
