THEOLOGY DEPARTMENTAL LECTURE
Friday, December 3, 2021

The Theology Department of Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Bodija, Ibadan, organized a lecture on the 3rd of December, 2021. The lecture titled “The Emergence of Judgement in Luke’s Gospel of Mercy” was delivered by Rev. Fr. Anthony Omolade and moderated by Rev. Fr. Francis Adelabu.

Fr. Omolade explained that the Gospel of Luke is a Gospel of mercy because of the many allusions to the mercy of the Father. Using Luke 1:5-64 as a case study, Fr. Omolade highlighted the reality of judgment in the Gospel as well. The lecture, which was centred on understanding the interplay between mercy and judgement, exposed seminarians to the possible responses to God’s message and the consequences of such responses. Based on the analysis of the scripture passage, he concluded by saying that judgement and the promise of salvation are both progressing simultaneously, and while God looks to humans for co-operation, He does not depend on them for actualization.

In his response to the paper, the Head of the Theology Department, Rev. Fr. Joseph Iyamah, thanked the guest lecturer for the well researched and delivered paper. He also thanked everyone for their participation. The event came to a close with the vote of thanks and the closing prayer, after which there was a group photograph of the speaker and moderator with all formators present.
