St. Christopher Magallanes and Companions
First Reading: Jas 3:13-18
Responsorial Psalm: Ps 19:8-9, 10, 15
Gospel: Mark 9:14-29
Jesus has openly declared that he came that we might have life and have it to the full. His healing of the epileptic boy in today’s gospel is obviously a demonstration of this assertion. Jesus has always desired our physical and spiritual healing, in order that we may become whole. But the event in the gospel also underlines the importance of faith, prayer and fasting for every Christian. The power to heal comes from the Lord, and those who believe in him can also perform similar feat that the Lord carried out. However, those who are blessed with special gifts and charisms must take heed of the counsel of St. James, by “never making any claims for yourself.” We must follow the Lord in humility, working for peace and harmony in the Christian community. And we are to care with compassion and special support for the sick, weak and vulnerable amongst us.
Prayer: Strengthen us Lord with your grace in the service of your word. Amen.
