On 26th October, 2023, the Saints Peter and Paul Institute of Theology, Bodija, Ibadan, had
its first lecture for the first semester, titled: The Church and the use of Social Media
Technology: Reflection on the Document “Towards Full Presence.” The lecture was delivered
by Fr. Anthony Abegunde and was moderated by Fr. Daniel Koumah. The Guest Speaker, Fr.
Abegunde started by presenting the advancement of science and technology over the years and
how the use of mobile phones and social media today has indeed transformed our world into a
global village. Fr. Abegunde then stressed the appreciation of the Church for God’s gift of
science and technology. He thus encouraged Christ faithful in general and Seminarians in
particular to make good use of the opportunity that modern technology offers. Fr. Anthony
Abegunde concluded his lecture, where a good treatment of the Document Towards Full
Presence had already been accomplished, by asserting that digital media platforms should be
used with a good sense of responsibility, cognizant of our identity as believers. As such, the use
of these social media platforms must be geared towards the evangelization of the people and the
propagation of the faith. The lecture had in attendance Seminarians of Ss. Peter and Paul, some
Seminarians of sister houses of formation, who study at the Ss Peter and Paul Institute of
Theology, and In-House Formators.
