On 10 th November 2023, the Nigerian Major Seminaries Association of Philosophy Students
(NIMSAPS), under the aegis of the Seminary’s Philosophy Department, had her first
Departmental lecture of the session with a topic, titled, “Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and
Prospects for the Modern Man”. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Victoria Akoleowo, a
seasoned lecturer from the Department of Philosophy, University Ibadan, and moderated by Dr.
Peter Ikhane, a lecturer of the same Department in the University of Ibadan, who are both
adjunct lecturers in the Philosophy Department of the Seminary. During her presentation, the
Guest Lecturer pointed out the exponential growth of Artificial Intelligence as well as its ability
to outsmart man in carrying out certain tasks efficiently and effectively. Without mincing words,
Artificial Intelligence has come to stay, and it has become part of human existence. However,
despite its positive contributions to humanity, AI poses certain challenges to man. These
challenges may likely become full-blown in the coming years, and this may result in the
replacement of humans by automated machines. This would certainly lead to a loss of jobs and a
reduction of human social interactivity.
