NACATHS Symposium
Friday, January 12, 2018

The distinctive marks of the Roman Catholic Church are summarized into four: the Church is One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic. Of the various means through which the Church reveals her oneness, obedience to the Papal Authority (the Pope) is never undermined. For, the Church believes and teaches that the Pope is the Vicar of Christ on earth and he is infallible in matters of faith and right morals. However, the world experienced a tirade of reactions; positive and negative, following the expression of the Holy Father, Pope Francis, on the modification of the Lord’s Prayer, with particular reference to the section: “Lead us not into temptation.” In a bid to contribute to the seemingly discursive debate which had obviously gone viral, the students of the Theology Department of Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Bodija (NACTHS), organized a symposium titled “The modification of the Traditional Christian Prayer, the ‘Our Father.’” The topic was addressed from four different perspectives by different students: Eseola Emmanuel (the scriptural basis), Arome Isaiah (the Pope’s authority to make changes in Church prayers), Ojo Peter (the impact of the change on the faithful), and Obilaz Peter (Is the Pope not yielding to the pressure of modernism?). The symposium which was conducted on the 12th of January, 2018, began at 3:45p.m. and was moderated by a student of Theology, Famoroti Raphael. It was indeed an educative session as it enabled all who were present to participate in the life of the Church.
