The Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis, art. 108, states that an annual retreat, which is a time of profound reflection in prolonged prayerful encounter with the Lord in an atmosphere of silence and recollection, must be organized for the candidates to the sacred priesthood. This is chiefly to foster within the candidate, a deeper union with Christ, and be instilled with the desire to dedicate his life generously to pastoral charity. In obedience to the magisterium, therefore, the seminary community had its Advent Retreat for the 2019/2020 academic/formation session from the 8th – 14th December, 2019. The retreat was organized in categories: The Theology Four (Final Year) students’ section was facilitated by Very Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Oriyomi of the Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta; The Theology One – Theology Three students’ section was facilitated by Rev. Fr. Ben Adebiyi; The Philosophy One – Philosophy three students’ section was facilitated by Rev. Fr. Valentine Anaweokhai. The Team of Formators also had theirs and this was facilitated by Very Rev. Fr. Patrick Omoge. All of these categories, however, had separate venues for their retreat. The one-week spiritual exercise came to its close with the celebration of the Holy Mass on the 14^th of December, 2019. Indeed, such a spiritual exercise was not simply to fulfil formative requirements, but to also prepare all towards the celebration of Christ’s coming at Christmas.
